Three injured in Pennsylvania steel plant explosion

Three people were hospitalised, two in critical condition, when a furnace exploded on May 23 at the ArcelorMittal steel mill in Coatesville, west of Philadelphia. Sources said water leaked into a 3,000-degree electric arc furnace containing molten steel, causing it to explode. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has also been notified.

The Coatesville plant has a raw steelmaking capability of 900,000 tons making steel plate, carbon, high-strength low-alloy (HSLA), commercial alloy, military alloy, clad, and flame-cut products.
